Working 2nd or 3rd shift is called graveyard shift for a reason. You miss so much that is going on in your family’s life. Chances are that you are asleep when the kids get on the bus for school or you might see them for a few minutes and you have left for work before they get home.Working these shifts myself, know what kind of burden that it puts on the family. Sure you usually get a shift differential for the inconvenience, but it is in no way equal to the time away from your family. Most jobs will only allow a person to miss so many days before you are terminated.Because of the limited days that are allowed, many people use their vacation days to see their kids evening school events. This would cause them to have no vacation time in the summers to take the family on a vacation.This has always been an issue with the second shift employees, that there was no allotted time given to see the kids for those “special events”, while their parent was at work. For workers that had no accumulated vacation time, they either left work and were given an unexcused absence or miss the event.This forced a lot of parents to make tough decisions. Do I miss work and support my child, or do I remain at work so I can keep my job? These were tough decisions to make, knowing that if they did not attend they would never be able to see the event again.Regardless of the high turnover at the company, the rules were the rules. When is enough, enough? Some places of employment may be different by allowing them to attend these events. I am speaking of the encounters that I have had.Parents working evening shifts worry while at work about their kids at home. Wondering if the children homework is complete, what the kids had for dinner, is the babysitter really watching the kids, are they in bed on time, and the list goes on. Because of these other things on the parents minds, they could possibly be putting themselves at a risk for an accident at work.Common sense lets you know that jobs pay the bills and without a job your family can not survive, but are you in the right job? Finding the job that makes you happy and your family happy is the right job.Jobs are hard to find in this economy, but you must decide if the job that you are currently working is the right job for you and your family. Jobs come and go, families are forever.If you go to work tonight and you are not happy, then you are not in the right job. Find a job like I have found, my hobby is my job! I wake up early every day ready to go to work.Being happy at what every you choose to do in your life is the only way to live! Take the time to choose the best job, never just settle for the job that you can get, you have to enjoy your job and everything about it.Picking the right job, if you need to be challenged, make sure that you find one that is always changing! Remember don’t settle for any job! So many people just settle for the first job they get and are stuck in this job for a long period of time.”If you do not wake up every day eager to go to work, then you are in the wrong business!”
