Do You Fancy Yourself As A WAHM?
For the majority of mothers it would be wonderful to be a full-time Stay At Home Mum/Mom (SAHM) and just focus on child-rearing and not bill-paying, but unfortunately as the financial strain becomes more evident being a SAHM becomes a reality for a minority and a dream for most.As time passes, and the purse strings tighten, the decision about returning to paid employment needs to be made. Some mothers may choose to venture into being a Work At Home Mum/Mom (WAHM) instead of return to their previous job and/or career.Establishing a new work at home enterprise will take time and patience and may cause your immediate finances to take a hit so make sure that you have some residual funds saved in your bank account to allow for a lack of income during the first few months of your new found career. The first thing that a prospective WAHM needs to do is to identify what her interests and skills are. There are plenty of informative websites on the internet that will offer helpful hints to mums/moms on how to get started with a work at home enterprise. Just type in WAHM into the Google search engine. It is imperative that you take the time to do proper research into your chosen niche before you start any work at home enterprise. With a new career comes the issue of balancing between family, domestic duties and work commitments. Some WAHM’s have success by focusing on their specialty niche and begin an online business promoting such. If you are skilled with crafting, you can create a website or blog to not only promote your crafts but also sell your products. You might also consider working from home for an employer on a contractual basis. This at least takes away some initial risk and outlay until you feel that being a WAHM is right for you and once again the internet is loaded with lots of opportunities but be very wary of scams and scammers – if it sounds too good to be true then it most probably is so do your homework first and ask lots of questions before you commit to anything. If it is the mother who was the “main breadwinner” before having the baby then the fathers could possibly take on a WAHD role if it is financially more beneficial for the family that the mother return to work. I guess you could say that rather than a WAHM or WAHD role we should actually refer to it as a WAHP (Work At Home Parent) role instead. Either way I’m sure that everyone in the family will benefit from one, if not both parents working from home if it is done properly from the start. There are many advantages to being a WAHM. With support from your family and careful planning before you start a home-based venture you will be well on your way to carving out a successful enterprise for yourself that could one day see you as the next “mumpreneur” of your chosen field.
