Work at Home Moms: Things You Can Do To Keep Yourself Fit and Exercised

As a work-at-home mom, you may realize that you’re no longer that active. When you were working outside of your home, you probably walked to work, or you’d pass by the gym on your way to or from work, so you generally stayed in shape. But now, because you find that most of your time is spent at home, you are gaining weight and becoming less fit. How can you make sure that you avoid this? There are a few things you can do to start you off:Avoid snackingWorking at home, you’re near all kinds of food all the time. The temptation to snack is that much more. Get rid of the snacks; keep them out of sight. If you have to take a snack, eat something healthy.Look at your dietYou are now eating a lot more meals at home – when you were working you probably ate one or two meals out of home every day. Now, you need to look at what you’re eating. Make it all healthy food. It doesn’t mean that you go on a diet or that there are things that you should deny yourself, but eat everything in moderation and only after making sure that it’s healthy. Keep lots of fruits and veggies handy – these can be your snacks.Take every opportunity to exerciseIf you take every chance you get to stretch a muscle or 2, you’ll end up quite fit. An hour for exercise each day may be time that you cant afford to sacrifice, but if you run up the stairs each time you have to go upstairs, if you use an exercise ball chair for an hour as you worked, if you eventually do leg stretches when watching TV after work, or pedal a mini-bike under your desk as you work, you’ll have incorporated some form of exercise into your life. You’re doing more than most people.Avoid sugar and fatThat does not mean that you completely eliminate them from your diet, but reduce the amount of sugar and fat you eat every day. They lurk in our favourite foods, so you need to know what to look out for. Check the label of your favourite ice cream for how much sugar and fat it contains. Check the mayo; check the ketchup; check the chips and especially check anything that comes canned or boxed. Most obesity is caused by these two elements and if you learn to take them at a minimum, you will be doing yourself a great favor.Go out and jog, walk or cycleIf you have some time in your day when you can walk or jog, do it. 15 minutes every day is good enough. You can use the jog or walk to accomplish other things too. You can pick up groceries on your bike, you can take clothes to the cleaners and jog back home; there’s a lot that you can do so your jog or walk help you with some of what you have to do.If you have a home based business, watch out for weight gain – when working at home, it’s really easy to eat more than you should.
