How to Motivate Your Spouse to Get Involved in Your Business

Whenever you start to think seriously about joining a home based business and you’re married one of the first things you have to ask yourself is… what is my husband/wife going to think about this. And if your answer is that they aren’t going to like it then it can really put you in a bad situation. Even if your spouse is supportive of letting YOU do the business it can still be hard if they aren’t actively involved in the business as well or want nothing to do with it. So the question then becomes how do I motivate my spouse to become involved in my home based business? Here are a few tips to help you out…
Find out what motivates themMaybe getting a new car is a huge motivator for you but not for your spouse. Find out what motivates him/her the most. Is is quitting your job? Is it getting out of debt. Find out what they really want and move towards that.
Make them do only what they want to doIf your husband/wife is shy don’t make them talk to prospects unless they want to. On the other hand if all they want to do is call people about the business let them do it and skip all the other boring stuff. If you want to get them involved let them do the things that interest them and you do the rest.
Find ways to help that don’t directly involve the businessHelping with a home based business doesn’t just mean going to meetings and talking to prospects. Let your spouse do things for you to help you get more work done. Like make sure the kids don’t bother you while you’re on the phone with prospects, or help keep the house clean so you can focus more on work… whatever. That type of thing can really help someone out when they’re trying to build a business.
Create a list of goals and rewards that you both want!Sit down together and make a list of rewards for yourselves but the key is that you have to both want the things you’re rewarding yourself with. Maybe it’s a new TV or a trip you’ve been wanting to take. Write out a list of 5 to 10 things that you will do for yourselves when you reach a certain point in your business that should keep you BOTH motivated especially if they are things you both really want.
