Procrastination – The Top Home Business Killer
Procrastination is the bad habit of putting of until the day after tomorrow what should have been done the day before yesterday. Napoleon HillMany people are looking for ways to make extra money at home and starting a top home business is a popular way to do just that. Many of those same people who look to start a top home business never get started. Others who start quit after a short period of time. Still others start and work at it for a good period of time then quit. While there are many reasons for this, one of the main ones is procrastination.Procrastination is defined as putting off or delaying or deferring an action to a later time. How does this relate to someone starting a home business? I believe there are two main areas that procrastination can hinder a person who is trying to start, maintain, and become a success with a top home business.Procrastination rears its head in the very beginning when someone is trying to find a home business to get started with. It’s true there are so many ways to work at home that the ability to pick the right one can be overwhelming. There are also all the warnings out there about all the scams. Despite this, there are legitimate home businesses out there. Procrastination is subtle in its attack. It often lurks in the background and whispers that now is not the right time to start. It may tell you to wait for a better opportunity or that you don’t really have the time or resources to get going. The bottom line is that it tries its best to keep you from ever getting started. But if you do get started, procrastination doesn’t go quietly away into the night.Once a top home business is chosen, procrastination changes it method of attack. It now tries to convince you that your business should take a back seat to everything else. It tries to tell you there isn’t enough time or money to do what needs to be done. It offers the classic,” You can do that later” line. It will tell you that working on your business isn’t as important as doing this or that. You will be amazed at things that will come up that will try to take your time. And if left unchecked, procrastination will lead to failure in a person’s top home business venture simply because it robbed that person of their most valuable asset-time.So what is a person to do? How can one handle this home business killer? There are people out there a lot smarter than me than can help with that but here are a couple of tips that may help. First, write down your goals and set up a schedule to keep them. These goals should be specific. Set a day, time, and a specific task that needs to be done. Also, spend some time figuring out where to begin before it’s time for the task in order to save time. And it’s best to keep these tasks within reason. Don’t over schedule yourself. You can also help yourself by eliminating any distractions that may occur before or during this time. Once the task is done, you will be amazed how good you feel about having taken another step towards your goal of building your business. But perhaps the best way to overcome procrastination is to make a conscious decision (the opposite of procrastination) not to let it overcome you. Encourage yourself and hang around those who encourage you. Read inspiring stories. Don’t give procrastination a foothold in your mind.
