Home Business Tips – Is There Such A Thing As A Lost Cause?
Before I even get into this discussion, there are a lot of people who think that their home business is a disaster waiting to happen, not so much because they picked a turkey of a market, but because they don’t have a proper business plan for it. That’s what separates one type of failure from another. So, in this article, I’m going to cover both types and see if either or both or none are lost causes. I think you will find this interesting reading.Let’s begin with the business model where the market is quite viable but the person just has a lousy business plan in place. Is this salvageable? Well, technically, if there is a market for the product or service the person is trying to sell, then of course it is. However, there is a variable that I’m going to throw into the mix that makes this uncertain. To best explain this, I’m going to give you an example outside of running a home business. I used to be a math major in college. Very few people know this. Why? Well, because I couldn’t cut it. I got up to my third year of calculus and that was it. I was so lost that it was pointless to go on. Now, calculus is what it is. It’s an exact science. If you know it, you can do all the things that you’re supposed to do with it. If you don’t, however, well, it’s about as useful as a drink of water to a drowning man.Point is, some people do not have the smarts to put a business plan in place. Their only chance is to get somebody to run their business for them. And that takes money. If you have it, great. If not, and you have to rely on your own wits, you’re going to have serious problems. That’s a cold hard reality that a lot of people don’t want to admit to. Hey, who wants to admit that they can’t do something? But I had to or I would have wasted my college education. Because I recognized I couldn’t do calculus, I changed my major and it was the best decision I ever made, next to starting my own home business 22 years later.Bottom line, in the above scenario, the business is salvageable IF the person either has the skills to improve the business plan or the money to have somebody do it for him. Now, let’s take the next scenario…where the market just isn’t viable. The answer I’m going to give you is going to surprise you.Who says it’s not viable?Just because research shows that people aren’t interested in a particular thing doesn’t mean that they can’t be MADE to be interested in it. Take the pet rock from back in the 60s or 70s, whenever it was. Do you think anybody got up one day and said, “I think I’d like to have a pet rock?” With marketing, almost anything is possible. Some of the most insane ideas became monster hits because of some smart advertising. So don’t discount a market just because there isn’t a current demand for it. Anything is possible. Thus, in my opinion, there is no such thing as a lost cause.Just opportunities missed. To YOUR Success,Steven Wagenheim
