Possibility Thinking
No idea, pursuit, goal, or dream is too crazy to pursue. Case in point. Two high school seniors living in New Jersey, have a dream to attend college in California. The summer before school starts they take a tour of California colleges. They are rudely awakened by the enormous cost of these colleges. They figure they now have two chooses. One being to scrap the idea of attending a California college and go to a local college for about a third of the cost. The second involves acquiring a huge debt before they even start their careersBut being open to all new ideas, just watching T.V.in their hotel room, sets the wheels in motion. There on the screen was Tiger Woods wearing his Nike logo hat and talking about his latest golf tour.Immediately, they both blurted out, “Thats it! Why don’t we get sponsored to go to college? We could wear the logo 24/7 and become spokes guys for the company, which would allow them to reach out to a very lucrative market-college students!”That being the plan, how do they pursue it? They built a website, which was up and running in a week, after their return home. On the website, they explained how they would advertise a company on their clothes, car, surfboard. They even designed T-Shirts that read your ad here over their web address.Having no idea what would happen once they announced their website, they set back and waited, But not for long. For within 24 hours, radio shows were calling for interviews. Within a week they had appeared on over 150 radio shows and more were calling. Then, local newspapers were calling for interviews and photo shoots. Then, they started appearing on local T.V. shows on FOX, ABC, CBS, and NBC. From there their story was ran by national magazines like People, TEEN, Cosmo Girl, and others. Even national newspapers ran their story. The time had come to select from the many applications that had been submitted. But none of them seemed to be the perfect fit. Offers were still coming in and one morning, First USA in Wilmington, Delaware, a Division of Bank One in Chicago, called. They were intrigued with their concept. They were developing a national program about student financial responsibility. They further explained that we would not be selling credit cards but instead teaching students how to be fiscally responsible. Our high school seniors really like the concept of helping students learn to be financially responsible. They set up a meeting with First USA Marketing Team. They were all recent college graduates. What had started out as a crazy, fun idea was now really taking shape. It really was looking like they had reached their intended goal. To have Corporate America pay for their college education at a high-ranking California college.
