Why Women Work at Home
More and more women are opting to work at home. While things may be changing slowly in the brick and mortar world, many women perceive that there is still a glass ceiling firmly in place. However, no such glass ceiling exists on the Internet. Ability, willingness to work, and desire for success are the only things that limit a person’s success on the internet, be it man or woman.Criteria that are often used in hiring people out in the brick-and-mortar world, such as how tall they are, how much they weigh, how old or young they are, whether they are handicapped, or whether they have small children at home, whether anybody ever actually admits it or not, are not used in hiring for online jobs. The fact that discrimination is illegal has not made it go away in the brick and mortar world.Some women work in work-at-home jobs, others start their own online businesses, and some of those women are unimaginably successful. Business is conducted online in an absolutely nonsexist way. Men can’t use their secret handshakes and verbal signals to gain an advantage online like they can out in the “real” world.Many women have found that they can work at home successfully and still fulfill their roles as mothers, wives, and daughters. They can run a successful online business AND pick the kids up from soccer practice, visit Mom, and get dinner on the table by six. It isn’t easy, but some women have managed to be successful on all fronts.
