How to Do Better If Your Home Business Is Doing Poorly
There are many excellent benefits to ‘being your own boss’, but if your home business is doing poorly and you want to do better, then you probably need a bit more self discipline. Here are some of my top tips to help keeping you focussed and sane, and helping you to be ultimately successful!1. OrganisationSet up a properly organised space to work from. I found it really frustrating in the early days having to lift out my work materials in the morning and putting them all away again at night. It could be just in the corner of a room, anything’s better than nothing.2. HoursDiscipline yourself to work fixed hours and let your family and friends know not to disturb you during this time, but make sure you take regular time out for proper breaks. You’ll be far more productive and much less stressed if you get out for some fresh air and exercise.3. Avoiding DistractionsTo avoid distractions I think it’s important to always set yourself a schedule. Review your achievements at the end of each day and write out a prioritised ‘to do’ list for the following day. Get your social media and email out of the way first and then religiously work through your list.4. GoalsEstablishing goals is really important for prioritising your tasks. Imagine going off on a journey without a destination in mind, how would you know what route to take? I use short, medium and long term goals and use these to determine what will need to done, and in what order.5. RewardsMake sure you record your achievements and reward yourself for them; it’s sometimes difficult to appreciate just what you’ve got done, particularly when you appear to have a never ending list of things still yet to do. Learn to appreciate your own efforts and give yourself a pat on the back.6. MotivationIt can be a lonely old world working from home sometimes, so how do you stay motivated? I’m a big believer in personal development and without the faith to believe in your own abilities, I think you’d really struggle to stay motivated. You should take time for this every single day.7. NetworkGet out and network, it’s good to network. I’ve always found that, no matter what business other people are in, when you’re running your own company you generally share a lot of common experiences and emotions with others. It’s definitely sometimes good to know that it’s not just you!To be a successful entrepreneur you must have your own self discipline, and because you haven’t got a boss breathing down your neck it’s up to you to make sure you stay on track and keep motivated. Follow these tips and you’ll be a big step further to greater success.
